BMAP-18 (truncated) - Antimicrobial Peptides - AMP
BMAP-27 is a member of the cathelicidin family and is a potent inhibitor of microbial growth, however at higher concentrations it is also cytotoxic to mammalian cells. BMAP-18 has rapid bactericidal activity against Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus uberis, and Escherichia coli. BMAP-18 has low toxicity to mammalian cells, insect cells and the tsetse bacterial symbiont Sodalis glossinidius while retaining an ability to kill a variety of species and life cycle stages of pathogenic kinetoplastid parasites including African trypanosomes, fish trypanosomes and Leishmania parasites. BMAP-18 also has immunomodulatory activity.
