Natural peptides and proteins are mainly made of 20 standard amino acids. Many other natural amino acids derivate from these 20 amino acids are also found in the Nature. In addition, amino acid chemistry has allowed to develop thousands of unnatural amino acids to improve peptide properties. Thanks to chemical peptide synthesis procedures, about any kind of amino acids can be incorporated in a peptide sequence contrary to recombinant synthesis.
