Temporin A - Antimicrobial Peptides - AMP
Temporin A is a short, linear, basic and highly hydrophobic anti-microbial peptide (AMP) isolated from the frog, Rana temporaria. Temporin A is particularly active against Gram-positive bacteria including those arranged in biofilms. Temporin A is also active against some Gram-negative bacteria and Leishmania parasites. Temporin A adopts an alpha-helical conformation in a membrane-mimicking environment and is able to perturb the membrane of microbial cells. Temporin A is practically non-haemolytic up to concentrations five-times higher than their minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) against Gram-positive bacteria.
